COGENERATION

With Gas or Diesel Engines

ENTROPIE's Single Effect Chillers are designed to match perfectly with Cogeneration Plants with gas or Diesel engines. Due to their exceptionally high efficiency these chillers can produce approximately the same cooling capacity as the electricity production of the cogeneration plant, even with the newest engines having efficiencies of more than 40%.

Much unlike a gas turbine a large portion of the available heat from a gas or diesel engine has a temperature of less than 100°C. Usually a hot water circuit with a return temperature of 70°C is installed to evacuate heat from lube oil, jacket and intercoolers, while the exhaust gas can be used to produce either steam or pressurized hot water. The large fraction of heat at low temperature can only be used with single effect chillers specially designed for the low return temperature.

In this application the high internal efficiency of the chiller combined with a low return temperature is crucial for high cooling capacity.

PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY

ENTROPIE builds special chillers for industrial applications with all feasible refrigeration processes, special instruments or equipment. Industrial chillers are mostly used in petrochemical complexes, ethylene units and naphta Cracker plants. ENTROPIE can adapt the design and construction of the chillers to the special requirements of the petrochemical industry:

GEOTHERMAL WELLS & GROUND WATER

ENTROPIE supplies Heat Pumps making use of hot water or live steam in order to recover available heat in geothermal water from one side and provide hot water for district heating on the other side.

DISTRICT COOLING

ENTROPIE supplies Absorption Chillers capable of producing chilled water to district cooling network making use of the heat delivered by district heating installations.

WASTE BIOMASS INCINERATORS

Biomass or waste incineration plants are equiped with additional condensing scrubbers and heat pumps to improve heat recovery from flue gas.

Heat recovery from flue gas is increased by 15 % or more depending on humidity of biomass or waste.

TURBINE INLET AIR COOLING

ENTROPIE delivers Turbine Inlet Air Cooling systems (TIAC), which use absorption chillers for the cooling of air in order to boost the turbine power generation and efficiency.

One of the inherent characteristics of the gas turbines is that, with increasing ambient temperatures, power output falls.The higher temperatures lead to:

  • Inability to meet peak demand
  • Lower efficiency
  • Higher operating temperatures at part load
  • Reduced life of the gas turbine

The absorption chillers are designed specifically for each location and climatic conditions. They can be designed for direct sea water cooling, for heat rejection or as a closed circuit with a fin fan air cooler for dryer locations.
