STEAM EJECTOR HEAT PUMPS & CHILLERS TECHNOLOGY

EJECTOPAC is a static heat pump (no rotating machinery or refrigerating fluid), using steam as driving energy.

Low pressure industrial thermal wastes (cooling water, discharge water, humid air, ...) for which the heat is useless at this temperature level, go through an exchanger (evaporator) where part of the heat is turned into latent heat of vaporization, in order to produce low pressure steam.

This low pressure steam is then compressed in a ejecto-compressor (see drawing) by the driving steam which is the only energy required.

At the Ejecto-compressor outlet, the steam is condensed in an exchanger and releases its latent heat at a usable temperature level (the satutation temperature corresponding to the outlet pressure of the ejecto-compressor). As the outlet temperature is usually below 100°C, the evaporator operates under partial vacuum (equilibrium steam pressure for that temperature). A vacuum system clears the circuits at start up and compensates for air leaks during operation.

EJECTOPAC IS A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT

  • High efficiency : achieved by adapting the size to each particular case and using steam as primary energy*
  • Low maintenance : garanteed by the simplicity of the process : static compressor and use of water as only fluid
  • Wide temperature range : up to 150°C, due to the thermal stability of water
  • Automatic and flexible operation : by regulating the steam flow between 20 % and 100 % of the full power
  • Adaptation to scaling liquors : by recovering the heat in a "flash" evaporator unaffected by deposits
  • Simplicity of installation : system can be factory assembled and delivered on a single skid.

* EJECTOPAC uses all the driving steam, i.e. about 85 % of the primary energy burnt in the boiler, whereas an electrical heat pump only uses the electricity provided, i.e. about 1/3 of the primary energy needed to produce it (power station efficiency).
